Attempted catalytic converter theft leads to arrest

Columbus police arrested a man last night who was allegedly trying to steal a catalytic converter off of a vehicle on North National Road .

A witness reported to police that they saw a man lying on the ground next to a vehicle in the parking lot in the 3600 block of North National Road at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. When the vehicle’s owner confronted the suspect, he ran away, leaving behind the auto exhaust part, which was left dangling underneath the vehicle.

Police arrested 22 year old Trey A. Smith of Columbus a short while later near National Road and Washington Street. He was already wanted on three local warrants and is now facing a new charge of attempted theft of motor vehicle parts.
