Dispatch center to install new security cameras

The Bartholomew County Council has approved a plan to buy security cameras to help protect dispatchers in the county’s emergency operations center.

Julie Pierce, deputy director of the center, said there have been numerous incidents this year that have raised concerns about security at the center, including threats to dispatchers over the phone, strange vehicles in the parking lot and people trying to get into the locked building. She said the cameras haven’t been replaced since the building was constructed.

Last night, the County Council approved the transfer of $13,900 to purchase the new camera equipment.
